Nick, don't forget (if you did that is) that the NPA is not National Parks. Its a NGO & has no statutory authority. This organization however, wields inordinate power & influence and must be feared by us fishos.
I actually don't agree with the thought that they deserve a measured response or that we should not have a 'knee-jerk' response. I say we knee-jerk away!! Its always been the way in Oz that us fishos are not organized. Its always trout v natives, bait v lures, C&R v "meatos", salt v fresh, "Aussies" v the latest new ethnic group, secret squirrels v Ozzybass... you get my drift!

Rant away I say.

Artifact,

Correct me if I am wrong but I think you are from Qld?

Unfortunately the laws on what you can and cannot do in National parks, state forests and other crown lands varies by state and specific location. For example; with the right permit you can and have been able to for decades, hunt certain species in various national parks and forests in Vic.
With the right permits you can hunt vermin in NSW State forests. Restrictions obviously apply.
In NSW you can certainly fish in these areas with certain local restrictions.

I live with Port Stephens at my back door and we have the Forester Port Stephens marine park. I certainly agree we need fishing behaviour laws to avoid the obvious rape and pilferage. (Our Hessian bag people)
As a fisherman and realistic conservationist, the difficulty I find with marine parks is knowing how and where to comply. At Port Stephens we have 3 specific zones and almost 20 criteria to meet across each zone for recreation use. What it has done is create a huge complexity on how to comply. You can see how a visiting weekend fisherman can be totally confused.

I believe the concept and intent of parks is fine; it is the sensible implementation and catering for all stakeholders that is the difficult component. Obviously recreation purposes need to be catered for. There is something our governments and green groups need to realise. If they ban something all it has ever achieved is creating a black market for the greatest non compliance people to rape and profit.
As a stakeholder group we do need to speak up as individuals and as groups; and be seen as responsible people.

yes CFK I live in Brisbane but I do fish alot in northern NSW where I grew up and this is what I was referring to. Thanks for the info, and I agree that it is downright impossible to satisfy the wants and needs of everybody and even harder accessing the regulations they impose. I know that the (NSW and QLD) parks I was looking at do not allow fishing but I was lead to believe it was a statewide policy in both.
