| Howdy all, now how many of you have been for a run or own a stratos or full blown bass or bream boat? What i would like to know is how they handle in the rough stuff. During the Pirtek comp Lake Macquarie blew up big time and there were bloody hundreds of them out there. Yep great to fish out of but mainly how do they handle the choppier water? |

Thats why I bought my scout.
It allows me to fish from the Hawkesbury to Fraser Island. I have been out through the heads in 10kt winds and with 2M swells and it allows me a greater range of fishing options.

The bass boats are perfect for what they are designed for, going fast over smooth water. If you are fishing comps on smooth water then they are the boat for you. Like anything you need to be sure of what your boat will be used for and then get the best one for the job. |

I have a Skeeter and it's fine in the rough water not a worry with it. I fish Glenbawn alot and anyone who know this dam knows it can get real rough quickly and my Skeeter handles it with ease I have seen tinnies have lots of trouble with the chop but the glass boats just eat it up. You might not be able to drive them flat out but in the rough water i would much prefere to be in a glass boat than a tinny they handle it lot better as they dont slap around like tinnies do. As the saying goes " there is nothing like having you ass in glass " and it's so true.

I've got a Stratos 176XT which I bought from Sportsfishing Boats Australia in Penrith. I've also fished Glenbawn in my boat, and have had no dramas at all. My first trip out in the salwater was in Broken Bay, and I fished the back of Lion Island, and came across the mouth of Broken Bay into Pittwater. There was a decent swell running, and I didn't feel worried at anytime. I also fish the Hawkesbury River a lot, and this river can turn into a washing machine in summer with ski and wakeboard boats, and the usual PWC traffic.
The late Dean Hayes ( I still miss the big fella a lot!) provided me with a lot of help with my 176XT, and he gave me a demonstration as to how good my boats rough water handling was. He drove at the large wake of 6 metre plate boat, and being used to a tin boat, I flinched as we passed over the wash. When I realised that a trip to the dentist was not going to be necessary, I was totally impressed.
Cheers
Steve

Thanks mate. It's a 75hp Mercury Optimax. It's very economical, and burns less fuel than the 2 stroke Yam I had on my 420 Hornet.
cheers

| Have a look at a Southern Star stealth / Lewis Typhoon. I have the stealth and it is the chop killer. Good at rest too. |

| I have had a skeeter for the past 3.5 years, great boat in the rough, like has been previously said, the scout model above i've heard are great as well as a few of the other flats fishing boat, obviously they handle a bit more chop than the glass bass boats. Obiviously alot smoother and more stable at speed than any aluminium bass boat ive been in. |
